Four Seasons Books Used Book Guidelines & Procedures

At Four Seasons Books, we love giving well-loved stories a second life on our shelves — but we also take pride in maintaining a curated selection of high-quality used books for our customers. Below are our guidelines and procedures for bringing in your used books.

USED BOOKS ARE ACCEPTED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

We’re a small, independent shop with limited space and capacity — following these guidelines helps keep things running smoothly for everyone.
  • Books brought in without an appointment, outside of your scheduled time, or in violation of our condition guidelines (including moldy, dirty, or damaged books) will not be accepted.
  • Repeated failure to follow these policies may result in being unable to participate in future used book appointments at Four Seasons Books.

Thank you for respecting our process and helping us keep our shelves (and staff!) happy and healthy.

WHAT WE ACCEPT:

We are looking for gently used, like-new books that meet the following criteria:
  • Clean and free of dirt, dust, and debris
  • No mold, mildew, or strong odors (including smoke)
  • No water damage
  • No excessive wear, ripped pages, or broken spines
  • Books in current demand or of interest to our customers
(We are especially interested in RECENT fiction, cult classics, children's books, local interest, and CURRENT literary nonfiction. Older encyclopedias, textbooks, home school curriculum, and outdated self-help books are not accepted.)

STORE CREDIT ONLY — NO CASH OFFER

If your books meet our criteria, we will:
  • Appraise the books
  • Make you an offer for store credit only
  • Credit can be used toward any NEW book purchases
We do not offer cash for used books.

DONATIONS WELCOME
We gratefully accept donations of gently used, like-new books that meet the same condition standards listed above.
If, during your appointment, we appraise your books and choose not to accept some or all of them:
  • You may take your books back with you
    OR
  • We can donate them on your behalf to a local nonprofit or organization in need of books.
Please note: There is a $5 per bag/box donation handling fee for books we donate for you.

IMPORTANT:
Books with mold, mildew, or obvious damage will be immediately turned away. Mold is a health hazard and can spread to other books in our store. Please inspect your books carefully before your appointment.

A FEW MORE THINGS TO KNOW:
  • We cannot accept books left at our door or dropped off outside of appointment hours.
  • We are unable to provide donation receipts.
  • Appointments are limited to the quantity we can review and process at one time — we appreciate your understanding!

Four Seasons Books Used Book Appointment Interest Form

We’re so glad you’re interested in giving your books a second life on our shelves! To keep things organized (and to keep our small shop from drowning in boxes of books), we offer used book intake by appointment only — and appointment windows open periodically throughout the year.
Want to be first in line when the next intake window opens? Fill out this interest form and we’ll notify you when we’re ready to schedule appointments.

Before you fill out this form, please note:
    • We accept gently used, like-new books only.
    • Moldy, dirty, damaged, or heavily worn books will not be accepted. (We cannot emphasize this enough: mold is a health hazard!)
    • We offer store credit only for books we take in — no cash offers.
    • If we do not accept some or all of your books and you would like us to donate them on your behalf, there is a $5 per bag/box donation handling fee.
