Professor Emeritus of Economics, American University, writes about globalization in the world economy and international money, labor and the American economy, & economic transformations in Europe. The author of four books & over 100 articles, he has lectured in 15 countries; was acting dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (1997-1999); twice department chair; Director of American University’s Paris Semester (1994-1997); & Founding Director of the Center for Israel Studies. While based in Washington, DC, he pursued an international career with appointments at the London School of Economics; the American Academy in Berlin; Hebrew University; American University in Paris; & the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam. He lives in Shepherdstown, WV.

Somewhat Retired President of ESC Company, an economics consulting firm whose diverse clients have included financial institutions, climate advocacy groups, Internet Service Providers, Felix Rohatyn, and the professional sports unions in baseball, hockey, and soccer. He has served as the Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs (Clinton I), and in senior positions at Unisys Corporation, the Committee for Economic Development, and the Congressional Budget Office. He was for eight years a regular commentator on NRP’s Morning Edition: has published two novels (Big Government and Grant Speaks, both Warner Books) and his all-economist leftist band, Red Shadow: The Economics Rock and Roll Band has released two records (both on Physical Records, and wherever good music is pirated). Father of three, grandfather of five, and husband of one, he lives outside of Charles Town, WV.
